Samsung takes the crown back from Apple as a new report claims the new Galaxy S9 display is better t

"Based on our extensive lab tests and measurements, the Galaxy S9 has an impressive display that establishes many new display performance records," DisplayMate's reports says, earning "[DisplayMate's] 'Best Performing Smartphone Display Award,' and receiving our highest-ever A+ grade."

The Galaxy S9 and S9+ have 5.8- and 6.2-inch displays respectively, both using organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology and QuadHD+ resolution with an elongated 18.5:9 aspect ratio (2960x1440). Altogether, Samsung calls this its "Infinity display."

The choice of OLED — a more advanced and costly technology than, say, LCD — brings with it a number of advantages, such as power efficiency (because pixels can be lit up individually, leaving them off when the colour is black), and colour richness.

DisplayMate particularly focuses on colour accuracy, too, which deems to be "record-setting" and "visually indistinguishable from perfect" when it comes to the Galaxy S9's display.

According to the report: "For all of the calibrated screen modes, the Galaxy S9 has uniformly excellent record-setting, visually indistinguishable from perfect, absolute color accuracy."

Here are DisplayMate's full conclusions of the Galaxy S9:
