The first whispers came in the summer of 1944: a Hungarian inventor living in Argentina had created something sensational. Practical fountain pens with internal ink cartridges had been in use for decades, but Laszlo Biro devised a new version that used a ball bearing instead of a nib—in other words, the modern ballpoint pen. It used instant-drying ink that rolled smoothly onto the page, and could write for six months—even at high altitudes—without being refilled.
The 1973 tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs was a spectacle made for Hollywood. King was at the top of her game, the first female player to win over $100,000 in a year. Riggs was an over-the-hill showboat and self-declared chauvinist pig with a gambling problem. Riggs hoped for one last minute of fame, King to prove that women deserved as much prize money and respect as men.

Glen A. Larson, the television writer-producer behind TV hits Quincy M.E., Magnum, P.I., Battlestar Galactica, and Knight Rider, has died at age 77.
A singer in the 1950s straightedge pop group The Four Preps, Larson went on to produce a series of sci-fi influenced dramas following the early success of his The Six Million Dollar Man. His influence was most recently seen after his 1970s Battlestar Galactica, which starred Lorne Greene and Richard Hatch as leaders of a homeless fleet wandering through space, was re-imagined and rebooted as a series in 2004.
Fox Sports‘ NFL Kickoff host Charissa Thompson has responded to criticism after she said on a podcast released earlier this week that she would sometimes “make up” quotes in her sideline reports during NFL games early in her career. On Friday, Thompson, a former sideline reporter, released a statement on Instagram explaining her previous statement. “I have never lied about anything or been unethical during my time as a sports broadcaster,” she wrote.
Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have solidified themselves as one of Hollywood's favorite couples, and now they've made their adorable family dynamic permanent with some new ink. Both of the tattoos feature their family's names in small cursive font. Teigen's reads "John-Luna-Miles" while Legend's reads "Chrissy-Luna-Miles." Luna is the couple's oldest child at 2 years old, while Miles is 10 months old. ADVERTISEMENT
Teigen also shared a photo of a small heart tattoo on her index finger.

Tan Seng Kee, a 62-year-old retired doctor and LGBTQ+ activist, recently filed a motion in Singapore’s High Court, asking it to order the city-state’s cabinet to revoke a colonial-era law that could imprison men for up to two years for engaging in consensual sex.
The law is rarely enforced, but it’s the symbolism that counts: despite gradual, progressive shifts in official rhetoric, Singapore remains one of the more conservative states in the region when it comes to LGBTQ+ issues.
Brazil is a melting pot of ethnicities, with a significant portion of its population being of African descent. The country has the largest African diaspora in the world, primarily due to the transatlantic slave trade. In regions like Bahia, a vibrant cultural hub, many Afro-Brazilians possess deep, rich skin tones. The Brazilian government and various organizations have been working to acknowledge and celebrate this African heritage, promoting racial equality and cultural pride.
As a creationist and also a believer in the historical account of Noah and the flood, I agree with atheist Darren Aronofsky’s statement about his just-released film Noah: It is the “least biblical” of Bible-themed films. Any other agreement I have with the filmmaker’s take on the Book of Genesis and its account of Noah ends right there. Further, I told a group of pastors earlier today that because I found Noah to be a boring 2½-hour movie, it may be the worst film I’ve ever seen.
