Wedding Dresses that Stand Out

Like millions of other brides, Amsale Aberra wanted to find the perfect wedding dress. Her preference was something simple yet sophisticated, but that wasn’t so easy to come by in 1985, when the billowing ball-gown style made famous by Princess Diana was still the rage. “I looked through all those wedding magazines, and at that time you could not possibly find something simple,” she recalls. So Aberra, an assistant designer at a sportswear label, made her own dress.
Having obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) isn’t easy. The condition, marked by uncontrollable thoughts and behaviors, strikes about 2% of the general population—a figure that in the U.S. alone means nearly 6.5 million people. If you’ve made it past young adulthood without developing any symptoms, you’re likely in the clear.
You wouldn’t know that to hear people talk, however. In recent years, OCD has become the psychological equivalent of hypoglycemia or gluten sensitivity: a condition untold numbers of people casually—almost flippantly—claim they’ve got, but in most cases don’t.
When Damy Li bought a ticket to attend the first concert of Eric Chou’s 2020 How Have You Been tour in Taipei on Aug. 8, she knew she’d have to wear a mask upon entry. When a horror movie makes as big of a splash as A Quiet Place did in 2018, there's typically a push to find a way to further capitalize on the scares that made it such a success. This can often result in new installments that not only feel contrived, but seem to strip away everything that made the original movie compelling in the first place. Luckily, that's not the case with A Quiet Place: Day One, now in theaters.
Why Hanukkah Colors Are Blue and White

It’s no secret that the American holiday calendar is thoroughly color-coded. The Fourth of July is red, white and blue, for obvious reasons. Halloween has pumpkin orange, and the Thanksgiving table tends to be festooned in the brown and red colors of the harvest season.
