Biography: Germán Alejandro Garmendia Aranis, better known as HolaSoyGerman, is a Chilean YouTuber, singer-songwriter, comedian, and writer. He is the most-subscribed YouTuber in Chile and one of the most influential and popular YouTubers in the Spanish-speaking world.
Garmendia started his YouTube channel HolaSoyGerman in 2011, uploading humorous videos about everyday life situations. He created his second channel, JuegaGerman, in 2013 for gameplay videos.
Soon Garmendia became one of the biggest YouTube stars, with his channels amassing billions of views and millions of subscribers. He was the first YouTuber to receive two Diamond Play Buttons for surpassing 10 million subscribers on both channels in 2016.
Garmendia released his first book, #ChupaElPerro, in 2016, a self-help manual with jokes and anecdotes, which became a bestseller. He followed it with a fictional novel, Di Hola, in 2018. Garmendia also formed the band Ancud with his brother, releasing an EP and a studio album in 2016-2017.
He has collaborated with various celebrities, including Jack Black, Simple Plan, and Greenpeace. He voiced a character in the Latin Spanish dub of Ice Age: Collision Course (2016) and participated in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games torch relay. In 2017, Garmendia released a mobile game, German Quest.
